WHO WE ARE
Journey for a Cause was inspired by a young man's dream to promote diversity and inclusion within the boating, fishing and outdoor adventure community. At just 20 years old, Eddie Gill saw a need for change and dedicated himself to creating awareness and providing exposure to minority communities by sharing his passion for fishing and boating. As a young African American man and collegiate athlete, he often felt judged for his love of the outdoors. When sharing his passion he was told repeatedly "That’s not very black of you!” He came to realize that much of the African American community is not involved in fishing and boating. Eddie is committed to changing this stigma."Journey for a Cause" is scheduled from June 1, 2021-June 10, 2021, starting in the Ohio River in Indiana continuing to the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, and then traveling all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico as a way to challenge and to promote the idea that the color of your skin has no bearing on what you love to do. In partnership with Parker Boats and other key sponsors, Eddie will undertake this adventure with his two childhood friends, stopping along the way to take part in community events to promote his cause and share his passion with local youth.
The Vessel
We are thrilled to partner with Parker Boats on Journey for a Cause. We are incredibly grateful for their sponsorship and have the greatest respect and admiration for their commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the boating industry and outdoor sports. It will be an honor to take this journey on a Parker Boat and I’m looking forward to a great adventure! We will set sail in Parker's 2520XLD Offshore Sport Cabin Boat.
